Privacy Summary
AI Signal is built with a privacy-first architecture. We do not require user accounts, we do not collect personal identities, and we do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. All preferences and saved bookmarks stay strictly on your local device.
1. Overview & Core Philosophy
AI Signal ("the Application") is an AI intelligence radar designed to deliver high-signal updates regarding state-of-the-art foundation models, AI developer tools, research papers, and corporate breakthroughs. We adhere to the fundamental belief: "Don't show everything. Show what matters."
This principle extends directly to privacy: we do not want your personal information, tracking IDs, or private data.
2. Data Handled by the Mobile Application
The AI Signal Android client operates under strict data minimization:
- No User Account or Authentication: You do not need to log in, register, or provide an email address, phone number, or name to use the app.
- No Third-Party Advertising: The application contains zero third-party advertising SDKs and displays no ads.
- No Analytics SDKs: The application bundles zero analytics or tracking libraries (such as Firebase Analytics, Google Analytics, Mixpanel, AppsFlyer, or Facebook SDK).
- Local-Only Storage: Your application preferences (including selected topic filters, tracked companies, theme choice, onboarding state, and bookmarked signals) are stored exclusively in your device's local Android Jetpack DataStore. This data never leaves your device and is never synced to external servers.
3. Server Communication & Operational Cloud Logging
To provide up-to-date AI news, model catalog specifications, and trend rankings, the mobile application connects over encrypted HTTPS to the public AI Signal API hosted on Google Cloud Run (asia-south1).
- Google Cloud Logging Infrastructure: Incoming HTTP requests are processed by Google Cloud Run. Google Cloud Logging automatically records standard HTTP access logs for each request. These logs record:
- Client IP address (remoteIp)
- User-Agent header (sent as
ktor-client)
- Full HTTP request URL and query parameters (such as
/v1/search?q={terms} when performing in-app search, or category and limit parameters)
- HTTP status code, response payload size, request latency, and timestamp
- Log Retention (30 Days): Access logs are stored within Google Cloud Logging's default log bucket (
_Default) with a retention period of exactly 30 days. After 30 days, these logs are automatically and permanently purged by Google Cloud lifecycle rules.
- Purpose of Operational Logs: These technical logs are maintained solely for cloud infrastructure health, DDoS defense, latency monitoring, diagnosing network errors, and enforcing temporary instance-local rate limits (120 requests/minute via an in-memory sliding window). Logs are never used for user profiling, advertising, or tracking across apps.
- No User or Device Identifiers: Neither the mobile app nor the backend generates, transmits, or stores user accounts, advertising IDs (AD_ID), Android IDs, or hardware serial numbers. Technical server logs cannot be tied to individual identities.
- PostgreSQL Database Isolation: The production PostgreSQL database stores only public foundation model specifications, developer tools, company milestones, research events, and ingestion crawler health records. It contains zero user tables, zero search query logs, and zero personal data.
4. Permissions Used
AI Signal requests only minimal standard Android system permissions:
- INTERNET (android.permission.INTERNET): Required to fetch public AI news feeds, benchmark data, and model specifications from our Cloud Run API.
- POST_NOTIFICATIONS (android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS): On Android 13 (API 33) and above, this permission allows you to receive optional local high-signal alerts when major AI breakthroughs occur. You can disable this at any time in your device settings or within the app.
5. External Links
The Application contains links to external websites, including original research announcements, model repositories (e.g. Hugging Face, GitHub), and company press releases. When you click an external link, your browser opens that third-party destination. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of those external services.
6. Data Retention & Security
All communication between the Android application and our backend is encrypted in transit using industry-standard TLS 1.3 / HTTPS.
- On-Device Data: All user preferences (theme, topic filters, bookmarks) are stored locally on your device in Android DataStore. Clearing the app's cache/data or uninstalling the app permanently deletes this information immediately.
- Server Infrastructure Logs: Technical Google Cloud Run access logs containing IP address, User-Agent, and request URLs are retained in Google Cloud Logging for 30 days, after which they are automatically deleted. No personal data is stored in the application database.
7. Children's Privacy
AI Signal provides professional AI technology news and reference information. It is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
8. Contact & Updates
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect application improvements or regulatory updates. Any changes will be posted to this page with an updated effective date.
